vegas is a garbage program IMO. It has a terrible workflow setup and its extremely buggy. The shortcuts are harder than they should be.I've been editing for 4 years now. I've worked on Adobe Premiere Pro and Elements, Sony Vegas, Pinnacle, WMM, iMovie, AVID, and Final Cut Pro.if I were you, I'd go with Premiere Pro. Great program, intuitive, you can easily sync up your stuff with After Effects if you get to that skill level, the workflow is easy, shortcuts are easy to learn, and its similar to FCP (since Adobe basically stole the workflow from FCP).

I have to mostly disagree with the post above! Vegas is stable, relatively bug free and, IMO, more intuitive than Premiere. I'd start with Vegas Movie Studio - it's a lot cheaper than the full Vegas Pro, it's upwards compatible if you want to upgrade and the upgrade cost is just the difference in price between the two products. You can download a trial, so why not see for yourself?
