How to repair Internet Explorer 6 in Windows XP

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 is one of most vulnerable Internet browsers. In case your IE has crashed and become corrupted it might be useful to follow this procedure and repair it.


This procedure requires Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM so get it before you start.

Method one, simpler:
1. Start - Run
2. type sfc /scannow and OK
3. Follow the system prompts in the process
4. Reboot the computer when System File Checker complete the work.

Method two, complicated:
1. Start - Search
2. Select More Advanced Options and choose Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
3. Also check Search System Folders and Search Subfolders.
4. In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
5. In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: and Search
6. When ie.inf file is located right click and choose Install on the context menu
7. Follow the procedure and reboot the computer when file copy process is complete

After those steps your Internet Explorer will be repaired and you will be able to use it again.

However, since IE 6 has so many vulnerabilities it is recommended to think about using more stable and secure Internet browsers available online, such as Firefox or Opera.
